There are a number of excellent Royalty Free Stock Photography libraries, where you can create a free account and where image downloads can cost as little as $1 for web ready images and $3 for small print ready images.

Royalty Free Stock Photography libraries normally offer two systems for payment:

Monthly Subscription - pay a set sum for the month and download up a quantity of images a day to a maximum for the month (ideal for agencies with high usage levels)

Credits - buy credit packs i.e. 5 Credits, 10 Credits or more the price of the credit packs getting cheaper as you buy more (ideal for individuals or low budget websites)

The web ready royalty free images are normally more than adequate for any web application you might have and the standard of images is generally excellent - sharp, bright color with good contrast and ready for immediate download!
